ARIZONA - One person cannot change something as large and complex as the state prison system, but Dora Schriro is making major strides. Schriro has been director of the Arizona Department of Corrections since June 2003. She brought with her an entirely new philosophy of incarceration which teaches inmates how to live productive lives after they are released. The results in this short time have been impressive. There are fewer escapes, fewer assaults on corrections officers and inmates and fewer grievances filed by inmates. Read more.
