Lyn and ken RHODE ISLAND – The Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) has awarded Correctional Officer Kenneth Lussier with a Letter of Commendation for an act of bravery. On February 19 Lussier rescued a trapped driver from her car on the side of the highway. It wasn’t until later that day that he realized he had aided a RIDOC colleague.

Parenteau and Lussier

Lussier was driving to work when he noticed a car off the highway turned on its side with the engine on fire. The CO pulled over to find a woman driver trapped inside the car. Lussier broke open the car’s sun roof to free the woman and called for police assistance. After Lussier arrived at work, his supervisor informed him the woman he helped was RIDOC Implementation Aide Evelyn Parenteau.

“While performing their daily duties our officers act with courage, providing for public safety of their fellow staff, visitors, and inmates under their supervision,” Director A.T. Wall said at the commendation ceremony. “Officer’s Lussier’s actions exemplify the qualities we seek in our staff – competence, composure, professionalism, and excellent judgment.”
