| NY candidate turns down top jail job |

NEW YORK - A New York jail superintendent has turned down an offer to be the director of Chelan County Regional Justice Center, said Chelan County Administrator Cathy Mulhall. Ronald Harling phoned Chelan County Commissioner Ron Walter on Thursday to tell him he was declining the offer, Mulhall said. "It was due to his family obligations. He felt they were not ready to make that kind of move," she said. Harling could not be reached by phone Monday at his current job heading the Monroe County jail in New York, and he did not immediately return an e-mail from a reporter asking why he had turned down the job offer.
