Changes sought to drug sentencing

ALABAMA - As Congress churns with talk of rewriting the nation's drug-sentencing laws, several people with direct experience of the effects -- including Mobilian Dorothy Gaines -- urged lawmakers Tuesday to act.

"If God can give us a chance, why can't you all?" Gaines asked rhetorically at a news conference organized by the American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups as part of a lobbying drive to address the sentencing gap between powder cocaine and crack cocaine. Read more.
