KANSAS - How does it feel to be slapped in the face? If you are a corrections officer in Kansas, you know. The sad fact is the slap didn't come from an inmate, but the Legislature. Instead of being recognized for safeguarding the safety and welfare of the community, we are being treated like a doormat. While legislators sit safely in guarded chambers and walk on polished marble floors, corrections officers walk on hard concrete with the sound of steel on steel and the ever-present danger of sudden physical assault.
