| Department improves records transfers |

NEW ZEALAND - The Department of Corrections says it has made improvements to the way inmates' medical records are transferred between prisons. Earlier this week, the Palmerston North coroner found the department failed to pass on the medical records of prisoner James Kahu when he moved jails. Kahu died from heart failure in July. The coroner said that other inmates would benefit from the department's systems being improved. Corrections says two reports, including the coroner's, found there were problems with the transfer of medical records and the issues have been addressed. Read more.
