WISCONSIN - Milwaukee County House of Correction Superintendent Ron Malone on Thursday said major progress has been made on fixing problems outlined in a scathing federal audit, including bricking over janitor closet windows like the one an inmate escaped through in August. Extra outside lighting has been added, new security window screens are being installed and dozens of correctional officers have been hired at the Franklin facility, Malone told the County Board's judiciary committee. "This has been very troubling to me," said Malone, who was told by Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker to fix the problems by late April or be fired.
