The Florida Department of Corrections chief of staff has been suspended for one week without pay for allegedly misusing a state computer. WESH obtained e-mail showing Mike Hanna was corresponding with President George W. Bush's state campaign director on company time. Doug Head, the chairman of the Orange County Democrats, said everyone may communicate informally at work, but Hanna took it a step too far. "(Employees) are not allowed to do personal business on (the) public's dollar," said Head. "When we go so far as to use governmental computers and governmental offices to specifically, and in a direct way, do things that are cited by Republican operatives as assisting in the presidential campaign; that's over the top." Hanna, who served on Gov. Jeb Bush's gubernatorial campaigns in 1998 and 2002, said the incident is unfortunate but not criminal. |
