| Funding could buoy construction |

CALIFORNIA - Placer County is going after nearly $10 million in state Department of Corrections funding to help build a new 220-bed jail in the south county. The county would build the jail near its soon-to-be-completed office building and courthouse at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. The 220-bed unit would be completed by 2011 and signal the start of eventual construction of a series of “pods” that would house up to 980 inmates at the South Placer County jail. The county’s jail housing is now in North Auburn and that will continue to be used after the new jail opens. In tandem with the 220-bed unit, the county is planning separate construction without state funds on an adjacent 128-bed facility at the justice center.
