NEW YORK - The state Senate is rejecting the Spitzer administration’s plans to close Camp Gabriels and recommends restoring full funding to the minimum-security prison. The Senate Finance Committee’s report on the proposed 2008-09 executive budget disagrees with Spitzer’s recommendation to close four prisons across the state and instead restores $10.7 million to the budget for the full and continued operations of Camp Pharsalia in Chenango County, the Camp at Mt. McGregor in Saratoga County, the Hudson Correctional Facility in Columbia County and Camp Gabriels in Franklin County. Read more.
