| Harrison County no longer housing inmates |

WEST VIRGINIA - Money troubles continue to plague Harrison County and the jail no longer houses inmates. Prisoners are sent to neighboring counties, including Jefferson, because Sheriff Mark Miller said he has to cut costs. Sheriff Miller said his budget includes $500,000 for the county, $200,000 for the jail and money he receives from the levy, but he said it’s still not enough. Miller said since he had to stop his litter program to save money, he’s turned to layoffs, cutting five corrections positions already, and dispatchers could be next. The Harrison County Jail is now just a temporary holding facility, but Commissioner Phil Madzia and the sheriff said there’s a glimmer of hope. Read more.
