MASSACHUSETTS - Two corrections officers at the state's prison in Walpole were hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries after being assaulted by about five inmates at about 2:30 p.m. today. As a result, the maximum security prison in Walpole was locked down, meaning the inmates had to remain in their cells and could have no visitors other than attorneys and medical visits, said Diane Wiffin, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections. The lockdown was expected to continue until at least Thursday morning while an investigation continued. The fight erupted in one housing unit of the prison.
