| Plan for women's prison opposed |

CALIFORNIA - San Jose officials are working to head off a proposal for a transitional state prison for 200 women in a residential neighborhood off Alum Rock Avenue that is a block from a school. In a joint letter today to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Mayor Chuck Reed and Councilwoman Nora Campos called the proposed "female rehabilitative community correction facility" at 10 Kirk Ave. "incompatible" with the surrounding area.
