'Bracelet' keeps tabs on inmates

NEW HAMPSHIRE - A new high-tech "bracelet" system is saving local taxpayers money while giving Belknap County House of Corrections inmates the chance to begin transitioning into life on the outside. In recent months jail officials have been fitting a small number of minimum security inmates with computerized bracelet devices that allow them to leave the County Drive facility while still being under close supervision.

Community Corrections Officer Donald Lemay has been heading up the program, which currently is being offered to a handful of individuals who are technically still inmates, but whom are living in their homes and sometimes working. Belknap County is using Secure Alert "TrackerPAL" devices to monitor inmates while they begin adjusting to life outside the prison.Read more.
