CALIFORNIA - East San Jose residents have planned a meeting Thursday to discuss a proposal to convert a former retirement home at Alum Rock and Kirk avenues into a small prison for women. The meeting of the Alum Rock Neighborhood Coalition will be at 7 p.m. at the Foothill Presbyterian Church, 5301 McKee Road in San Jose.

The meeting is in response to a proposal by Leaders in Community Alternatives, a San Francisco social service agency, to house up to 200 female inmates at the 4.26-acre site under contract with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Read more.
