| Major movie possible at closed prison |

MICHIGAN - When the state closed Southern Michigan Correctional Facility last November in an effort to help balance the state's budget, the local economy suffered. Now, the historic vacant facility has the potential to provide an economic boost to the area as a movie location. Tuesday afternoon, Janet Lockwood, director of the Michigan Film Office, Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan and a movie producer from Los Angeles toured the empty grounds. "There may be a major movie or maybe several that could be filmed at Southern Michigan," Marlan said. Marlan, who did not want to name the producer, said the producer told him he already has a script and is looking for a prison to serve as a major backdrop for the movie. Read more.
