| Bucks settles MRSA lawsuit |

PENNSYLVANIA - A class-action lawsuit filed over prison conditions and an outbreak of the MRSA infection at Bucks County's jail has finally been settled after more than five years. A federal judge on Wednesday signed off on a laundry list of measures that have already or will be implemented at the Bucks County Correctional Facility to stem the spread of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. Bucks County will pay just $60,000 to cover legal fees and costs, said Doylestown attorney Anita Alberts, who has worked on the case since 2002. Alberts says this lawsuit was never about money; it's about sanitary changes needed at the Doylestown Township facility. The agreement accomplishes some, but not all, she said. MRSA is an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection characterized by pimples, boils and other skin irritations. Cases of MRSA among inmates in the jail came to light in 2001. Read more.
