TEXAS - The state prison board is hoping higher pay and new incentives can help ease the shortage of corrections officers. The Texas Board of Criminal Justice voted Thursday to boost salaries for new corrections officers by 10 percent and to accelerate their move up the pay scale ladder. The immediate goal is to counter a significant defection of rookie officers during their first year when nearly half of them quit. Read more.
