MAINE - Jody Roberts was looking for a change in her life. While working a desk job for an Iowa State University extension office, the Iowa native decided to move to Maine to be with her fiancé and enter a career where few women tread: county corrections. Roberts, a sergeant who has worked as a corrections officer for the Kennebec County jail for more than five years, never looked back. "It's never the same routine, day in and day out," Roberts said. "Every day is a new day." She's also in the minority among county-corrections employees. Only two of nine people who have applied to become a corrections officer are female, county human-resources manager Terry York told commissioners Tuesday. Read more.
