| County officials oppose jail shift |

ARIZONA - About 150 county officials from across the state, including Mohave County, are opposing a plan by Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to shift prison inmates to county jails. All three Mohave County supervisors - along with Sheriff Tom Sheahan, County Attorney Matt Smith, Clerk of the Superior Court Virlynn Tinnell and others - have signed a petition opposing the shift of about 10,000 inmates from the state Department of Corrections to county jails throughout the state. Napolitano plans to shift the costs of housing non-violent criminals to the counties instead of at the state prison. However, the move would take approval from the state legislators. Read more.
