ARIZONA - Lyle Broadhead, warden of the Arizona State Prison-Safford, did not plan on a career in corrections after he graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in finance. A graduate of Safford High School and Eastern Arizona College, Broadhead wanted to return to the Gila Valley and go to work for Phelps Dodge. Unable to land a job at Phelps Dodge, Broadhead accepted a job as a caseload manager at the Safford prison in March 1996. Read more.
