COLORADO - Officials are keeping mum on details of a proposal to release a convicted killer to a Boulder halfway house until it can be presented to a Boulder District judge for consideration next week. Boulder prosecutor Bruce Langer said earlier this week that John Christopher Engel would be as closely monitored as anyone ever released to community corrections if the move is approved. Still, the judge will determine who will track him and how, if she agrees to release him from prison at all. Engel, 22, is asking for a sentence reconsideration that would spare him from 32 years in prison for killing his adoptive mother and grandmother with a hammer and knife in 1999. Read more.
