After announcing his retirement last week, a warden at the federal prison in Lompoc, California is reportedly escorted off the prison grounds. According to reports, Warden Al Herrera took a sudden leave from the U.S. Penitentiary last Wednesday, and there's no word why he departed, as efforts to contact the Bureau of Prisons and union officials were unsuccessful. Herrera has become the subject of reports regarding prison safety and accusations that he obstructed justice by covering up inmate rioting, in addition to misuse of government funds. Veteran Bureau of Prisons administrator Joyce Conley has filled the position as acting warden. |
