MARYLAND - Eight more corrections officers have been fired amid excessive force allegations at local prisons. An MCEA union official tells NBC25 the officers were fired Thursday afternoon from North Branch Correctional Institute in Cumberland. This comes amid an internal investigation of use of excessive force there. Over the past week, 17 officers at Roxbury Correctional Institute in Hagerstown have also been fired on similar allegations. Officials with MCEA, which represents several of the RCI and one of the North Branch officers, met Thursday at the Funkstown Legion to discuss the firings. They say they don't yet know if they will contest the actions, but they plan to conduct a full investigation to ensure proper protocol was taken. They have also provided free legal counsel to all MCEA officers involved in the allegations. Read more. If link has expired, check the website of the article's original news source. |
