FLORIDA - The Florida Department of Corrections has missed a deadline set by a Broward judge to come up with a plan to find jail transportation for accused probation violators. Since Feb. 1, more than 60 felons have been released after probation officers arrested them because there was no one available to drive them to the county jails, state officials say. State corrections has appealed the order Broward Circuit Judge Stanton Kaplan filed March 11, giving the department 30 days to fix the problem, officials said. The Department of Corrections is discussing the issue with the Broward Sheriff's Office, said Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a corrections spokeswoman. Read more.
