| Inmates to be housed in tents |

VANCOUVER, CANADA — The British Columbia government is building massive Quonset-style tents on the grounds of two provincial jails to temporarily ease overcrowding and provide beds for the rapidly growing number of people in custody. Thia Walter, whose son has been held at North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam, recently drew attention to overcrowding in the system after an inmate, John Parker, was killed in his cell earlier this year, allegedly by his cellmate.
