WASHINGTON - The state Corrections Department has agreed to pay $850,000 to settle a lawsuit over a fatal crash in Seattle in April 2004. The settlement announced today resolves a lawsuit filed by survivors of 55-year-old Gloria M. Daquep. She died when her Honda collided head-on on Martin Luther King Jr. Way with a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Charles W. Roberson III, an offender who was under state supervision. Roberson crossed the center line, and investigators found that he was drunk. Roberson, 33, is now at the McNeil Island Corrections Center, serving a nine-year sentence for vehicular homicide. Roberson had several previous drug- and alcohol-related convictions. Officials say he was meeting the conditions of his supervision before the crash. Read more.
