Medical care contract rescinded

ILLINOIS - Jail inmates continue to be used as political footballs in Lake County. Sheriff Roy Dominguez and the Lake County commissioners did not argue at the meeting about a medical services contract which has been a point of contention in recent weeks. But speaking separately after the meeting, both the commissioners and the sheriff made it clear they remain troubled by the situation.

The commissioners voted to rescind a contract for Hobart-based Med-Staff to continue staffing the jail with doctors, and announced they would accept bids for the job. Dominguez has criticized the Med-Staff extension as an illegal no-bid contract, though he urged the commissioners to give the company a $1.85 million contract for 2007 without accepting bids.
