The BodyCuff is a variable hand and leg restraint system.  The subject can be immobilized or provided controlled movement for processing, transport, medical procedures, bathroom needs, and eating without ever having to be released from the restraint.  Total control is maintained throughout all evolutions, reducing the number of required escorts, reducing escort liability and risk, and greatly increasing safety to both the escort and subject.  The BodyCuff provides this flexibility with a more discrete appearance than other devices without sacrificing secure control of the subject.

The BodyCuff consists of two components, a hand restraint system (waist belt) and a leg restraint system.  The waist belt is attached with one snap using a seat belt style buckle that is released with a handcuff key.  Handcuffs are attached to a nylon strap, which passes through a variable release buckle mounted to each side of the belt. This variable release buckle is operated with a handcuff key and allows the handcuff to be extended and locked up to 14 inches.  At any time the escort can pull on the nylon strap to bring the handcuff back tight against the hip. There are two handles on each side of the belt, which can be used to control/direct the subject or for lifting him when he is maximally restrained and immobilized.

The leg restraint may be used to provide added security to a subject who is a flight risk or combative.  It attaches to the waist belt with a handcuff and has two variable release buckles attached to a nylon strap.  The lower buckle allows for a loop to be formed and tightened around one or both of the subject's ankles and double locked.  The upper buckle allows this loop around the subject's ankle to be extended and locked enough to let the prisoner walk, or to be retracted to a bent leg sitting position so he cannot get out of a chair, or to be retracted tight against his buttocks so he is immobilized.  As with the hand restraints, at any time the loop around the foot/feet may be retracted by pulling on the nylon strap.

The BodyCuff was conceived and developed by a San Diego law enforcement officer to provide maximum restraint without having to put the subject in a potential positional asphyxia situation.  The versatility and flexibility he designed into it make it a unique system providing any agency total control in subject handling - The ability to move a subject from point A to point Z without ever having to take him out of the restraint as he performs whatever functions required on the way.
