Going batty
By
Published: 04/28/2008

The Montana Department of Corrections is tackling a problem that's been driving them a little batty. The recreation hall west of the Montana State Prison has been infested with bats for the past 25 years.

The Corrections Department recently built bat houses away from the lodge to drive away the winged mammals. Department officials say they're looking forward to the day the bats leave.

Gayle Lambert with Montana Correctional Enterprises says fewer bats will mean less bat guano for workers to clean up. She says she's optimistic about the bat houses, but it could take up to two years before the lodge is completely free of bats.
