Two escaped inmates from Oregon have been captured in southern Idaho, after a police chase that spanned three counties. Aaron Keith Pierce, 16, and Peter James LaChapelle, 20, escaped last weekend from the Hillcrest Youth Correctional Facility in Salem by climbing out a window, according to Karen Andall, a spokeswoman for the Oregon Youth Authority. Troopers said the chase moved through three counties and two small towns in Idaho before officers threw spikes on the road that stopped the suspects' pickup truck. Witnesses said the spikes flattened all four tires of the truck and the suspects jumped out and fled on foot Pierce, a former resident of Multnomah County, was serving time for assault as well as carrying and using a dangerous weapon. LaChapelle used to live in Malheur County and was serving time for conspiracy to commit robbery. Police said he is also a registered sex offender. Both suspects are being held in the Ada County Jail. |
