| Too many inmates, too little room |

TEXAS - Can you remember the days back before the new jail was opened in 2002, when Houston County didn’t have enough jail space, and had to pay board to keep inmates in jails in other counties? Well, those days are back. The state-of-the-art jail built with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds has beds for 506 inmates, and the inmate population is running as high as 518. The county has already begun paying Pulaski County $35-$45 per day to board inmates, with four there this week. Read more.
