ILLINOIS - A group of lawmakers on Thursday proposed putting a 16-month hold on any future Illinois prison closures while a new panel examines the condition of existing prisons and considers how best to serve inmates. They announced the idea at a State Capitol news conference, which they scheduled just days after the Blagojevich administration said Monday that it wants to close the Pontiac Correctional Center.
