| Deputies to move inmates |

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA - Sheriff’s deputies, not jail [officers], will move inmates to and from the Dartmouth jail, at least until an external review of policies at provincial jails is finished, Justice Minister Cecil Clarke said Tuesday. Mr. Clarke included the measure in accepting the 14 Labour Department recommendations in an occupational health and safety report. Mr. Clarke said the deputies already do 90 percent of the transfers between justice facilities. He said jail managers and police will also pitch in when necessary. He didn’t have an estimate on how much extra it would cost to have sheriff’s deputies do transfers.
