ILLINOIS - A fight between a sheriff and a judge over space to keep criminals in Lake County has spawned a wide-ranging financial study into the economics of housing inmates. Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez said Thursday he will instruct his staff to determine how much it will cost the county to house 45 state prisoners in a space currently occupied by sheriff's work-release inmates. Dominguez criticized the commission for approving a proposal to convert a work-release wing to sleeping quarters for state inmates, accusing the commissioners of being financially irresponsible.
