| U.S. settles civil rights lawsuit |

NEW YORK – Female employees at the state’s Sing Sing Prison in Westchester County have scored a victory as the US District Court has reached a settlement with the state Correctional Services Department over allegations of pregnancy discrimination. The State Corrections Department had determined that a female employee who gives birth to a child should be transferred from workers’ compensation leave benefit status, for which she was otherwise determined to be eligible, to maternity or child-rearing status, with a far lower level of benefits. The case involved 23 female corrections officers, former and present, at Sing Sing Prison, who filed coordinated civil rights lawsuits. Read more.
