| Director: Poor funding hurts department |

SOUTH CAROLINA - South Carolina’s prison director says poor funding is making it hard to prevent escapes and respond to prison emergencies. Jon Ozmint says the Corrections Department is decades behind other states in technology. He said most states have also surpassed South Carolina in security staffing, especially in the most dangerous prisons. Last month, the agency outlined its budget troubles to the State Budget and Control Board. The Senate finance committee is asking for a review of the agency's finances. |
