| State limits population to save money |

ARKANSAS - The state expects to save about $1.2 million by limiting the inmate population of the new Fayetteville adult detention center. The savings will come from leaving 70 beds unfilled and 15 positions vacant, said Rhonda Sharp, spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Community Correction. The Northwest Arkansas Community Correction Center for women opened in April with the goal of housing 170 nonviolent felons. The department had to find ways to reduce its budget by $ 6. 4 million as part of an overall $ 106. 8 million reduction in general revenue spending by the state. Read more.
