This could be a first for a state government agency in Albany, New York. The Department of Correctional Services is being criticized for being too informative about a prison breakout involving two convicted killers whose escape seemed straight out of a Hollywood movie. And the complaints are coming from the union that represents the corrections officers at Elmira state prison who are harshly criticized in the official report on the escape. The officers' union says the state report divulges too many details on how Timothy Vail and Timothy Morgan escaped from the maximum-security prison last July. They dug through a ceiling, used bed sheets to get over a wall and made dummies for their bunks to fool the officers. The convicts were captured a few days later. The Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association says the report is so detailed that it amounts to a "blueprint for escape" for other inmates. State prison officials say they don't think the info divulged in the report will help other inmates plan escapes. |
