Jail facing almost $9 M budget cut

WASHINGTON - Jail corrections officers broadcast a public plea for help as the battle over a King County budget cut moves to the airwaves. King County has set out a plan for an $8.9 million budget cut, but the corrections officers are taking their fight public.

“The executive and council can't endanger public safety with these massive cuts,” said the radio ad put out by the King County Corrections Guild.

The jail budget cuts would go to fill a $68 million shortfall in the county's general expense fund. Seventy-one percent of the fund pays for criminal justice. Larry Phillips chairs the county council's budget committee. Read more.
