| Release of 26 elderly inmates approved |

THE PHILLIPINES - The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Thursday released 26 "sickly and senile" inmates as the country marked its 110th Independence Day anniversary. BuCor director Oscar Calderon said the inmates were freed after President Arroyo signed their commutation order. The President had also granted the prisoners conditional pardon. Read more.
