Survivor wins right to sue

AUSTRALIA - The Supreme Court has offered a legal lifeline to Susan Couch, the survivor of the brutal Auckland RSA triple murder in 2001. The Supreme Court today upheld her appeal for the right to sue the Department of Corrections for damages, after she was badly hurt by William Bell, who was on parole at the time.

Ms Couch suffered serious injuries and spent years in rehabilitation after Bell wounded her and killed three other employees at the Mt Wellington-Panmure RSA in December 2001. Bell had 102 previous convictions and was on parole when he went to the RSA where he had worked as a barman. He killed Mary Hobson, Wayne Johnson and William Absolum. Read more.
