NEW ZEALAND - The Department of Corrections has admitted a member of its staff lost a sensitive file containing confidential details about high-risk offenders on parole or about to be parolled. The file was found on the street outside the Auckland High Court on Wednesday afternoon. It contained 30 pages of information about the contact details and parole conditions of a significant number of people - many of them serious offenders known to the public. Media commentator Martin Bradbury told Radio New Zealand News he was contacted by a man who told him the file was found near the court. He says he initially thought the file was a hoax, until he read it and realised it was legitimate. He says it was labelled a "high risk" report. Read more.
