ILLINOIS - Crime in Winnebago County is continually on the rise and now Sheriff Dick Meyers says the jail at the new Justice Center needs more space to house prisoners. Administrators at the Winnebago County Justice Center are preparing to open their doors to more prisoners. Since the center opened last July, the county's jail population has increased by an average of 80 prisoners. "Most agencies in our county run about double the national average for arrests," says Sheriff Meyers. Now Sheriff Meyers says it's time to open two more units of cells in the facility.
