NEW JERSEY - Court records explain how an inmate's family received $85,000 to smuggle drugs, weapons, cell phones and escape tools into New Jersey State Prison. An appeals court ruling says Miguel Ramos took orders for more than 130 fellow inmates at the maximum security prison in Trenton. The goods were delivered once payment was made. Records show the scheme dates back to at least 2004. The Corrections Department began investigating in 2006 and transferred Ramos to an out-of-state prison in 2007. The appeals court decision involves an inmate who allegedly placed orders with the ring through his mother.
