| Parole officers ready for new role |

NEW JERSEY - After 24 weeks of police academy, officials say members of the state's newest class of parole officers are ready to answer almost any call, even if it doesn't fit within their traditional job description. On Tuesday, 20 parole officer recruits will graduate from the Somerset County Police Academy at Raritan Valley Community College. The parole officers are members of the first parole-officer recruit class to complete a new, more-rigorous training regimen, a change indicative of the shifting role of parole officers. "We've expanded our parameters as parole officers," said Capt. Kevin Fowler, training coordinator for the state parole board. "We now have many more partnerships across the state." Read more.
