| Funding threatened for two programs |

KANSAS - Headed for serious prison time, some hard-core substance abusers in Johnson County have been offered a different path to turn their lives around. Now funding is threatened for two widely praised corrections department programs, one geared to adults and one to juveniles. In an effort to save nearly $700,000, County Manager Mike Press has proposed eliminating the Therapeutic Community program. Run by 12 employees, Johnson County’s Therapeutic Community is an intense, yearlong program meant to create a supportive environment in which abusers learn to make better decisions that will keep them away from drugs.
