OHIO - Nettie Ballard won't know what to do with herself when the city jail closes down today. Ballard has been a corrections officer for 19 years. "I'm sure I'll shed a few tears," she said. "It's been a great ride." With the recent opening of the 260-bed county jail, the city jail no longer is needed. "When looking at the cost to the taxpayers ... to run a jail here and a county jail across the street, it really doesn't make any sense," Mansfield police Chief Phil Messer said. Read more.
