| Commander to be new undersheriff |

OREGON - Lt. Scott Jackson, the commander of the Benton County Jail and a 13-year veteran of the department, will be promoted to undersheriff on July 1. The county has not had an undersheriff since Simpson cut the position she’d held for almost five years in January 2007, when she took office as Oregon’s first elected female sheriff. “When (Simpson) came into office, she left that position vacant, leaving the funding out of the budget for the first year,” County Budget Manager Pat Cochran said. “It helped law enforcement meet their overall budget target.” Read more.
