MARYLAND - The search for a killer of a Prince George’s County jail inmate zeroed in on three corrections officers who had the greatest opportunity to strangle the 19-year-old man accused of killing a police officer, a source close to the investigation said. According to a letter obtained by The Examiner, which was sent to corrections officers hours after public safety director Vernon Herron met with them Wednesday morning, officers were told they must cooperate with police or face repercussions. Several officers had refused to meet with state police and the FBI earlier in the week, although sources say at least one stepped forward Wednesday. While corrections officers were told they may exercise their constitutional rights, Herron wrote, “failure of any individual to make themselves available to investigators will result in the county taking whatever appropriate actions are available under the law.” Read more.
